Making Places project to hold event in Helensburgh

Helensburgh residents have already been having their say

Residents are being invited to ‘share their vision’ for the future of Helensburgh next week.

More than 50 people have so far taken part in the ‘Making Places’ survey, the latest stage in Argyll and Bute Council’s new local development plan, which last year saw sites across Helensburgh and the Rosneath Peninsula considered for new housing.

The Helensburgh Making Places project is jointly funded by the council and the Scottish Government, allowing people to use an online ‘place standard tool’ to rate different elements of the town.

A team from Glasgow-based icecream architecture has been in the town this discussing ideas with residents and from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, June 4, they will be holding an event asking the public  what they want for the town.

“The project aims to create a shared vision for Helensburgh that people across the community can buy into, so that as many people as possible can make their voice heard in how Helensburgh continues to develop,” said a spokesperson.

“The project will be economic regeneration focussed and aims to identify opportunities to improve the attractiveness of Helensburgh as a place to live, work and invest.”

The Place Standard system leads to a spider diagram such as this

The survey is using the Place Standard model, which lets people rate different aspects of their area.

A series of events will be held in Helensburgh later this summer with different groups – to be involved in this email ross@icecreamarchitecture or call 0141 237 8592.

The project also has a Facebook page: Helensburgh Making Places
