Update: Rosneath Peninsula water supply restored

Drinking water has been restored to up to 1,000 people customers in Rosneath, Kilcreggan and Clynder who were impacted by an earlier interruption to their supply.

Alterations made to the network during this evening means the tankers previously required to bolster supplies are no longer needed – though they will remain on site as a precautionary measure.

Operatives are working through the night to identify the fault and customers are warned that the continued ‘step-testing’ – the process of taking pressure tests at various points along the water main – may cause a further, minor interruption to their supply for a maximum of a few minutes. Any customers who experience this should try to run their tap five minutes later, at which point the water should flow.

As supplies restore customers may notice discoloured water.

Scottish Water’s advice is to allow the cold-water tap to run at a reduced pressure until this runs clear, and not to run any other taps or use any water appliances whilst doing so.

This process should be followed for any other taps affected, once the water is clear from the cold-water kitchen tap.

If customers experience white water, this is air trapped in the supply and will clear within 24 to 48hrs.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We are confident that we have restored drinking water to all customers in the affected area, and we have had no customer contact regarding loss of supply since early evening.

“Our operatives are working round-the-clock to locate the fault and we will let customers know if any further work may impact their supply once repairs get under way. Our thanks once again for the patience and understanding shown during this incident, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption.”
