‘Have your say’ plea in Kilcreggan harbour consultation

Residents have been urged to have their say in the online consultation over the £9.3m Kilcreggan Harbour project.

There will also be a face-to-face drop-in event, a meeting heard last week – but that might not happen until the consultation has closed.

Meanwhile objectors have built a 3D model of the preferred option (above), which would see a large breakwater and pontoon built to the west of Kilcreggan pier.

Argyll and Bute Council’s online consultation runs until March 12, and last week Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council chair Nick Davies stressed its importance.

“If I have got one message to put across, it is please put your views in and make sure everybody in the community is aware,” he said.

He said he had been told there would be a drop-in event but no date was available yet as it required attendance from all parties involved in the project – the council, CalMac, Transport Scotland and CMAL.

“Until they’ve made a decision on the new ferries they won’t finalise the decision on the drop-in event.”

The online consultation asks people if they support the preferred option 4a – a new pontoon and breakwater to the west of the current pier.

For people saying no, three alternatives are given:

  • Option 3a – New solid quay structure with fixed ramp for passenger access to east of berth
  • Option 5a – Pontoon berth in front of existing with pedestrian access from existing terminal
  • Option 6a – Solid quay structure with fixed ramp for passenger access to west of existing berth

The 3D model of option 4a will be on show in the small hall of Cove Burgh Hall on Saturday from 11am to 1pm, to coincide with the Our Community workshop in the main hall.
