Quad bike activity centre planned for Glen Douglas farm

A quad bike activity centre is being planned for a farm in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

The proposals for Doune of Glendouglas are said to have based on ‘a gap in the market’ which would help to diversify the farm.

A planning statement, produced by MH Planning Associates on behalf of applicant Shona Ross, says that quad biking on the farm in Glen Douglas could potentially take place daily, with a maximum of seven 45-minute tours per day.

There would be a maximum of nine quad bikes operating at any one time.

The farm is owned by Luss Estates and bas been tenanted by the same family for 75 years.

“A gap in the market, that would serve many of the visitors to the national park, has been identified,” says the statement.

“With the ongoing changes to agricultural policy, it is vitally important be able to keep young people in the farming industry, particularly hill farming, and farm diversification is one way of achieving this.

“With respect to any potentially adverse impacts, the application site is not specifically designated for either its landscape or its biodiversity value.

“There are also no neighbours who are likely to be affected by the proposed quad biking activities.”

The consultants add that the plan is supported by national park visitor experience policies as it diversifies an existing rural business and enhances visitor experience by offering ‘bespoke and high quality products’.
