Slower journeys for Helensburgh commuters from Monday

Trains between Helensburgh Central and Glasgow will take an extra ten minutes when a new temporary timetable takes effect on Monday.

Currently ScotRail says that daytime journeys to and from Queen Street take 42 minutes.

Bu the new timetable will see all services calling at every station en route, rather than missing out Clydebank, Yoker, Garscadden, Scotstounhill and Jordanhill as was always the case previously.

Peak-time express trains were cut several years ago and the latest change will mean another increase in journey times for commuters.

Trains will now leave Helensburgh at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour, with return journeys leaving Queen Street at two and 32 minutes past.

A ScotRail spokesperson said the change was temporary and was because Glasgow’s Argyle line will close for eight weeks between Rutherglen and Exhibition Centre from this Sunday.

During the closure, engineers will complete a series of projects to repair and replace tracks, tunnels and bridges on the line through Glasgow city centre.

Alan Ross, Network Rail Scotland’s director of engineering and asset management, said: “This major investment in our railway infrastructure is designed to keep the line operating reliably for our customers.

“While we appreciate that some journeys will be impacted during the line closure, our work will mean that disruption and delays will be less likely in the future. And at Anderston, starting work on a new lift will make the station more easily accessible in the future.

“Such a large programme of engineering work cannot be completed without closing the line, but our teams will be working hard to finish this project as quickly as possible.

“We’re urging passengers to plan ahead when travelling during our works, whether they’re commuting to or from work, travelling to watch football or attending an event at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC).”
