Express commuter trains to and from Helensburgh have been cut by Scotrail.
The company says a timetable which is ‘broadly the same’ as that brought in for the Queen Street tunnel works when that project finishes on August 8.
Although Scotrail’s initial statement did not refer to the additional rush hour limited stop services it was confirmed today that these would be cut.
A spokesperson said: “There will be some changes to the station ‘calls’ on the route to and from Edinburgh, which should only affect those travelling beyond Glasgow city centre.
“We’ve found this allows us to run a more robust and reliable service throughout the day on this route.
“Regrettably, this means the previous additional peak trains – the 07:59 Helensburgh Central to Airdrie and the 17:14 Bellgrove to Helensburgh Central services – that operated before 20 March will not be reinstated.”
This will be the second peak time train service from Helensburgh to be cut in the last two years.
The current timetable has seen morning trains far busier than usual, with most seats taken by the time trains leave Dumbarton.
But Scotrail says that the number of carriages on some trains will be cut: “During the tunnel works, almost every train on this route has been running with six carriages to accommodate additional passengers switching from the line via Falkirk High.
“When the tunnel re-opens, six trains will be taken out of service for refurbishment, resulting in carriages being moved around to best suit customer demand.”
Customers can now check their train times on the Scotrail website, selecting a date from August 8. Digital timetables will be available to download from mid-July and printed timetables will be in stations towards the end of July.
