‘Farcical and dangerous’ – temporary lights in place for a year

Temporary traffic lights on the Haul Road through Glen Fruin look set to be in place for more than a year.

A parapet on a bridge on the A817 was damaged in December last year – traffic lights were installed, but have frequently broken down.

Argyll and Bute Council had previously said the repairs would be complete in June, but then revised the date to August, and then again to October.

In the meantime the lights have frequently broken down, and this week a council spokesmen condemned thieves who have caused some of the breakdowns.

“We understand that batteries were stolen from the lights at the works on the Haul Road.

“It’s utterly shameful that someone would do that,” she said.

“We are in discussion with the contractor as to when they will be able to complete the work.”

Fergus Madigan of Garelochhead Community Council has made repeated complaints about the delays to the work, earlier this month was told by an official that the work would be complete by Christmas.

“It is getting a tad farcical and dangerous,” said Mr Madigan.

“I feel there needs to be some accountability here, it is only down to very welcome luck there has not been a serious accident at the temporary lights.”
