New owners to announce plans for ‘eyesore’ former torpedo range

The former torpedo range in Arrochar is said to have attracted anti-social behaviour.

A former torpedo range – seen as crucial to the future development of Arrochar – has new owners.

And the company is holding a public meeting next week to reveal its plans for the site on Loch Long.

The 21-acre site, which went on the market in April, was used as a torpedo range until this was closed in 1986.

In 2013 planning permission was given by Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority for a 130-bedroom hotel, 36 holiday lets and 16 houses, but that has now lapsed.

In 2018 it was identified by Argyll and Bute Council as being the main focus for economic development in the area.

On Monday a public meeting will be held at 6.30pm in the Three Villages Hall, with an announcement saying the site is now owned by Ardnagal Estates Ltd.

Residents are invited to meet the owners and ask about their plans for the site.

Companies House documents show Ardnagal Estates Ltd was incorporated on October 25 this year.

The directors are listed as Ian Hazlitt Henderson and Peter Andrew Wylie and the nature of the business is described as ‘buying and selling of own real estate’.

In 2018 an Argyll and Bute Council report stated that developing the site was the top priority for Arrochar, adding that it was unkempt, derelict and the attracted fly tipping and antisocial behaviour.

Cllr Iain Shonny Paterson described it as an ‘eyesore’ and a ‘blot on the Arrochar landscape’.
