Kilcreggan toilets reopening is permanent, council confirms

The toilets have been closed for 12 months

Kilcreggan’s public toilets have been reopened permanently, Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed.

And with the Waverley expected to return this summer, the news will be welcomed by residents and businesses.

The facility was closed in March last year at the start of the Coronavirus lockdown and remained shut, despite dozens of the council’s other public conveniences reopening last summer.

Businesses on the Rosneath Peninsula and MSPs pleaded for the toilets to be reopened last year, with the nearest public conveniences were 15 miles away in Rhu.

In September the council said the toilets would reopen just on weekdays, only for that decision to be reversed on cost grounds.

Last Thursday, April 1, however the toilets were reopened for seven days a week – and the council says the move is permanent, rather than seasonal.

Meanwhile, the fundraising drive aiming to see historic paddle steamer Waverley cruising on the Clyde this year is inching nearer to its £350,000 target.

Waverley Excursions Ltd says £315,000 has been raised so far by its Covid Relief Appeal.

The steamer’s 2021 timetable has still not been released, but it is expected to feature more frequent calls at Kilcreggan than in previous years, with Helensburgh pier still closed to mariners.
