Arrochar torpedo range site put on the market

A former torpedo range – seen as crucial to the future development of Arrochar – has been put up for sale.

The site on Loch Long was given planning permission in 2013 for a 130-bedroom hotel, 36 holiday lets and 16 houses, but that has now lapsed.

In 2018 it was identified by Argyll and Bute Council as being the main focus for economic development in the area.

But now it has been put on the market by EGM Property Consultants, together with two other sites nearby as a ‘unique development opportunity’ – offers will be considered for the sites individually or as a whole.

The company’s website states that the 21.3-acre site was decommissioned as a torpedo range in 1986.

It adds: “Part of the site has since been demolished however some of the former structures remain on the site in addition to the hammerhead deepwater pontoon

“The remainder of the site comprises a single track road leading down to the shoreline.

“The site previously benefitted from planning consent, however while this has since lapsed, there remains strong support for the site to be redeveloped.”

The company is also advertising a car park in Arrochar – which was marketed by Galbraiths in January for offers over £150,000 – and a 19.6-acre site in Succoth.

The council has stated that it aims to buy the car park with Scottish Crown Estate funding – currently it leases the car park, but EDM say the lease expired last October and it ‘is now subsequently running on tacit relocation’.

The Succoth site is said to be ‘undeveloped land of a broadly consistent level between the A83 and Glen Loin Road’.

EDM states that ‘the main body of the site’ has been identified for ‘ low intensity forms of development on the higher areas to the north and recreation areas to the south’.

Further details are available on the company’s website.
