‘Stay local’ urge police as visitors head to lochsides

Police have urged the public to stay local over the Easter weekend – as lochside car parks were crammed with visitors.

Yesterday it was revealed here that more than 2,000 penalty charge notices had been issued in just seven months at car parks in Luss and Arrochar.

The registered keeper addresses for 200 of those vehicles were also released – and only one was in Argyll and Bute.

And as the Easter weekend started today the car parks beside Loch Lomond and Loch Long were again full – despite Covid-19 regulation stating that everyone should stay in their home area.

Argyll and West Dunbartonshire Policing Division today issued a reminder that people should not travel outside their own local authority area except for an essential purpose.

Chief Inspector Marlene Baillie, area commander, said “We are asking people to take personal responsibility to do the right thing and remember the purpose of these measures is to aid the collective effort to stay safe, protect others and safe lives.

“Our approach throughout the pandemic has been to engage with the public, explain the legislation and guidance and encourage compliance, but we will not hesitate to continue to use our enforcement powers as a last resort.

“If you are visiting local beauty spots, within your local area, do so safety and respectfully – leave no trace of your visit. Please also park responsibly to allow emergency access if needed.”
