Navy and Babcock staff raised funds for Erskine

Over £3,400 has been presented to Erskine Veterans by Royal Navy sailors and Babcock staff based at Faslane.

The money was raised by various departments, including the Warrant Officers’ and Senior Rates’ (WOSR) Mess and the HMS Neptune Store.

Mark McLoughlin, the WOSR Mess President, went along to present the veterans and staff with a cheque for £1,850.

He said: “Erskine is dedicated in supporting the armed forces and their families. Being able to give something back to the charity makes us feel particularly proud.

“This donation is thanks to the generosity of mess members, staff and guests.

“We are very pleased with our decision to support Erskine as our mess charity for 2019 and are always impressed during our visits with the fantastic support they provide every day.”

Graham McLaughlin, Babcock retail services manager, presented a cheque for £1,577.78, which was raised from customers putting their loose change in collection tins.

“This is testament, not only to the generosity of Naval personnel and civilians working on the Base, but more importantly to the high regard and gratitude they hold for the work done at Erskine, to care for and support those who have served their country,” he said..

Erskine is Scotland’s foremost provider of care for veterans and their spouses, providing nursing, residential, respite and dementia care in four homes.

The charity also assists younger veterans who need help to begin the next chapter of their lives, offering social, recreation and training facilities at its activity centre.

There are 44 cottages for veterans and their families and five assisted living apartments at the Erskine estate at Bishopton, with building work underway for 24 single living apartments.
