Argyll and Bute’s departing chief executive praised by provost

Argyll and Bute’s Provost has paid tribute to the council’s departing chief executive.

Provost Len Scoullar praised the contribution made to the area by Cleland Sneddon, who is leaving the council after nearly a decade.

Cleland Sneddon resigned last month

Mr Sneddon is leaving to take up a similar role with South Lanarkshire Council.

Pippa Milne, the council’s executive director for development and infrastructure services, has been confirmed as his replacement from December 19.

Cllr Scoullar took the opportunity before the council’s meeting on Thursday to wish Mr Sneddon well ahead of his departure.

He said: “He has been with us for nearly 10 years, firstly as executive director for community services, starting in May 2010. He then took up the role of chief executive in 2016.

“He is originally from Wishaw, but we won’t hold that against him, as he spent a great deal of his childhood in Argyll and Bute.

“He consistently urges people to talk up Argyll and Bute, and his desire to promote its worth to the wider world is something he brought to his role as chief executive. It also demonstrates the hardworking and big-hearted team we have here.

“The future of our young people has always been very close to Cleland’s heart, and his pride in the environment we offer is immense. His commitment to offering the best for our children is second to none.

“I know it is personal reasons that have drawn you home, but Cleland, please do not be a stranger. You go with our best wishes and we know you will always be an ambassador for Argyll and Bute.”

Cllr Scoullar also congratulated Ms Milne on her appointment, saying: “Pippa comes into the role with vast experience in local government, and we look forward to working with her in her new post.”
