Argyll and Bute Council names new chief executive

Pippa Milne, currently Argyll and Bute Council’s executive director, will be Argyll and Bute Council’s new chief executive.

The authority announced the appointment to the £124,000-a-year job today, with effect from December 19 when Cleland Sneddon leaves for South Lanarkshire Council.

Council leader Aileen Morton said: “We had a very strong pool of candidates to choose from. I would like to congratulate Pippa on securing this role, and I look forward to working with her, as Chief Executive, for the benefit of Argyll and Bute.”

Pippa Milne has 28 years of local government experience, five with Argyll and Bute Council specifically.

She said: “Argyll and Bute is an amazing area that deserves a prosperous future and I will work tirelessly to build this.

“I understand the challenges the area faces, and the difficulties this council deals with every day.

“I also see the opportunities for success that are there for us to take. It will be a privilege to work for Argyll and Bute as chief executive of its council.”

  1. And so it’s Buggin’s turn!

There are far too many overpaid “managers” within Argyll & Bute. The only thing they can manage is increases in salary and more managers. Meanwhile we have fewer and fewer people doing the jobs that need to be done.

We pay contractors exorbitant amounts to do half a job. If we employed half a dozen decent workers, and somebody that can organise them, Hermitage park could have been transformed at a fraction of the cost. Now the contractors will walk away with the job half done and there will be insufficient staff to maintain the park, Colquhoun Square and all the rest of Helensburgh.
