Argyll and Bute Council chief executive resigns

The chief executive of Argyll and Bute Council has resigned, it was revealed today.

Cleland Sneddon was appointed to the job, which has a salary of £124,000, in 2016.

The Lochgilphead-based authority released a statement saying: “We are disappointed to lose Cleland after almost ten years of dedicated service to the people of Argyll and Bute.

“He moves on with our very best wishes and thanks for his work.

“The search for a new chief executive officer for Argyll and Bute Council is underway.”

Before replacing Sally Loudon as chief executive, Mr Sneddon was executive director of community services, and best known as the official behind abortive plans to close 26 primary schools.

Mr Sneddon worked previously for Midlothian and South Lanarkshire councils in roles covering education, housing, HR, social work and leisure.

He joined Argyll and Bute in May 2010.
