Plan for wind farm above Dunoon revealed

Plans for a large wind farm above Dunoon will go display in Cove this month.

The Giant’s Burn Wind Farm would see nine turbines of up to 200 metres built on the Cowal Peninsula, potentially including battery storage as well.

Developers Statkraft say a planning application is expected at the end of this year or early in 2025 and the power capacity would be up to 64.8MW.

But before then they have written to 10,000 households inviting them to attend consultation events, including one in Cove Burgh Hall on Thursday April 25 from 4pm to 7.30pm.

A spokesperson said: “The exhibition will provide residents and other interested parties the opportunity to review our proposals and provide their views.

“Since introducing our plans in March 2024 we have shared details of the project via email with surrounding community councils and look forward to sharing our plans and hearing the views of the wider community at this very early stage of the project.”

An online exhibition will also be available from next Monday on the project website.

Locations for visualisations later in the process are expected to include Glen Eden and Knockderry Castle in Cove.

The company says it will pay community benefits of £5,000 per MW – equating to £320,000 if the predicted capacity is reached.

Statkraft also submitted a planning application for the An Càrr Dubh Wind Farm near Inveraray in March 2023.
