A Year in a Field to be shown in Cove

A documentary filmed entirely in a field in Cornwall will be Cove and Kilcreggan Film Society’s penultimate film of this season.

A Year in a Field was made by BAFTA-winning writer and director Christopher Morris, who filmed a 4,000-year-old neolithic monolith in the Cornish landscape for a year.

Every day, he walked the mile from his home to the stone, from the winter solstice 2020 to the same day in 2021.

He films the stone through the changing seasons, films the wildlife around it, the occasional intrusions of litter and/or people, but the stone is the principal character, which draws contemplative and sometimes challenging commentary from Morris.

A meditative, quietly enthralling film, made by one person with one camera and no budget, it was a surprise choice to be entered at the prestigious Sheffield Doc Fest in 2023.

Admission is free to members, with £5 guest admission.

Doors open in Cove Burgh Hall at 7.30pm on Thursday with lights down at 7.45.

There will be free popcorn and you’re welcome to bring your own refreshments – glasses available at the hall.
