Boots in Kilcreggan to close, with new operator taking over

Kilcreggan’s branch of Boots is closing down this month, with a new operator taking over the pharmacy.

Two years ago, when the lease of the property became available, Boots renewed the lease, saying: “We very much want to retain our store in Kilcreggan which provides important pharmacy services to the local community.”

But today it was confirmed that the Kilcreggan branch is one of hundreds across the UK that Boots will no longer operate.

The new owners Davidsons Chemists are a well-established business, with dozens of branches across Scotland.

A spokesperson. said today: “I can confirm that all staff currently working at Boots Pharmacy in Kilcreggan will be retained under Davidsons Chemists ownership.

“Additionally, the text messaging service will continue, although patients will be required to register for the service with Davidsons Chemists.”

A spokesperson for Boots would not comment on the decision, but said staff would be offered alternative roles and that most of the branches closing were within 2km of another Boots branch.

The nearest Boots branch to Kilcreggan by road will now be in Helensburgh, 24km away by road.

Kilcreggan Medical Practice sent the following message to patients today: “Boots Pharmacy in Kilcreggan will be changing owner to Davidsons Chemists on Monday 15th April.

“Any prescriptions dispensed by Boots must be collected by Saturday 13th April.

“Uncollected prescriptions will be taken apart.

“Prescriptions in the final week will only be dispensed if patients phone ahead to confirm they will be collected by the Saturday.

“Staff will need to adjust to new computer systems and there will likely be a large backlog so please be patient and allow extra time. Please also be aware the text message service may not work after the change.”
