Garelochhead station to be extended

Plans have been lodged to extend Garelochhead railway station platform to allow longer trains to call.

Argyll and Bute Council planners are considering an application by Network Rail for listed building consent for the proposed work.

New barriers, gates, handrails and steps all form part of the plans, which are now available for viewing by the public, although there is not currently a design and access statement available.

Comments can also now be submitted to planning officers, who are expected to make a decision on the proposal by the middle of March.

The station is one of eight on ScotRail’s West Highland Line featured in plans by Network Rail for platform lengthening.

Among the others are Helensburgh Upper, Arrochar and Tarbet, and Ardlui.

Also included in the project are Bridge of Orchy, Tulloch and Roy Bridge. The plans will allow longer trains to use the platforms, and if successful, the work is intended to be complete by May.
