Storm damage closes Helensburgh leisure centre

Upodate: The leisure centre reopened on Monday afternoon.

Helensburgh’s new £23m leisure centre has been closed after its roof was damaged during high winds last night.

Storm Isha has already seen widespread disruption across the area, with further high winds and heavy rain expected tonight and tomorrow.

The leisure centre,  which was opened 18 months ago, is run but LiveArgyll.

A spokesperson said: “Overnight, Storm Isha caused some minor damage to the façade of Helensburgh Leisure Centre.

“The decision to temporarily close was taken to ensure that LiveArgyll could work with Argyll and Bute Council contractors to make the entrance to the facility completely safe to the public.

“We are liaising with contractors to rectify minor damage as quickly as possible.

“Customer and staff safety is our number one priority, and we will update customers when we’re back up and running.”
