Storytelling classes launched on peninsula

New classes in storytelling have been started in Cove.

Gauri Raje had storytellers from England and Europe gathering at her home in Kilcreggan before the pandemic for meetings.

“As part of these gatherings, we had storytelling events for children and adults,” she added.

“Quite a number of people from the villages on the peninsula attended – at one event, our living room held about 40 people, adults and children listening to stories for two hours.

“Quite a few adults and parents mentioned to me at these events and afterwards that they would like to learn how to tell stories.

“I would also like to introduce contemporary storytelling and storytellers to the Rosneath Peninsula and its nearby areas.

“Storytelling is an art form that is community-oriented in nature and brings the community together.”

The classes are on Saturdays in Cove Burgh hall and run until February 3 from 10am to 1pm, except for January 13 when they will be from 1.30 to 4.30pm.

They cost £10 per class per person and are open to anyone aged over 16, with no previous experience needed.

Gauri is a registered storyteller with the Directory of Scottish Storytellers and has run workshops and told stories at festivals in Edinburgh, Brighton, Shropshire, India, Europe, South East Asia and the USA.

She received the Scottish Asian Award in the ‘Spirit of Scotland’ category for a Cooking Tales community storytelling project in December 2023.
