Helensburgh hotel extension decision delayed

A decision on whether a Helensburgh takeaway can become a hotel extension is set to be delayed due to ‘resource issues’ among council officers.

The County Hotel, on Old Luss Road, submitted plans to Argyll and Bute Council in July to make the neighbouring Curry Club an extension of its current premises.

But a letter has now been submitted to the hotel asking for an extension of the process to late November. A decision had been expected by mid-September.

Seven objections have also been lodged from members of the public in relation to the plans, citing concerns over traffic at the neighbouring junction with South King Street.

A previous report, written in August, also saw officials request more information on the plans, including the existing and proposed staffing levels, parking provision and location of refuse facilities.

The council said to the applicants in early October: “As you may be aware, the council should determine your planning application within two months of the above valid date, unless an extended period can be agreed in writing with the applicant or their agent.

“Unfortunately, due to resource issues on the part of the planning authority, it will not be possible to determine your application within the previously advised two-month determination period (or if appropriate, the previously agreed extension to that period).

“I would therefore be grateful for your agreement for an extension of the determination period until November 28, 2023 in order to take account of the issues raised above.”

The applicant is then advised that if they do not respond within five working days, it will be taken that the time extension has been agreed.

No further documentation has been published by the council since.
