Landslide fears after flood warnings

The main A83 trunk road at the Rest and Be Thankful will be closed tomorrow evening after warnings of heavy rain across Argyll and Bute.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of heavy and persistent rain from midnight on Saturday until 6am on Sunday, saying there will be ‘heavy and persistent rain’.

And SEPA has put a yellow alert in place to warn of flooding from rivers and surface water, with flooding of roads and disruption to infrastructure is possible.

Traffic on the A83 will be diverted onto the single-track Old Military Road from 6pm tomorrow (Friday).

A spokesperson for contractors BERAR (Scotland) said: “The OMR is expected to continue to be used over the weekend.

“Subject to the outcome of hillside inspections and ongoing review of forecasts and hillside saturation, it is anticipated that traffic will return to the A83 Rest and Be Thankful during the day on Sunday October 8.

“Our team continues to have a presence on site and are monitoring conditions closely.

“A further update will be issued if there is any change to the above traffic management arrangement.”
