Grants to help improve Helensburgh shopfronts

Helensburgh businesses have been told there are grants available for repairs to their shopfronts.

Painting, joinery and masonry work can all be funded by the Shopfront Improvement Scheme art of the Helensburgh Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS).

The funding could cover up to 80% of the work and is available to businesses in the town’s conservation area (below).

Liz McCabe, Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for islands and business development, said: “The Shopfront Improvement Scheme is helping businesses across Argyll and Bute to transform their shopfronts and increase footfall as a direct result.

“We have seen fantastic success stories of vacant shops reopening, exiting businesses getting a new lease of life and more people shopping local.

“We hope to see the same results in Helensburgh and would encourage business owners to get in touch and apply for the grant to help cover repair costs.”

Historic Environment Scotland and Argyll and Bute Council jointly fund the programme, focusses on the regeneration of historicl buildings as well as traditional skills training and community engagement.
