Helensburgh Waterfront: Consultants to analyse feedback

Consultants are now analysing feedback over a key site on Helensburgh waterfront, Argyll and Bute Council has announced.

The authority has thanked the public for taking part in workshops and drop-in events for the vacant site (above) in front of the town’s new £23m leisure centre.

There were nine submissions of interest for the 1.38-acre site after it was put on the market by Argyll and Bute Council in January ‘with favourable planning status’.

The council says that ‘independent consultants’, which it has appointed, will now gather all feedback to help progress plans to the next stage, including appointing a preferred bidder for the site.

The council initially targeted the site for retail, but Helensburgh Community Council said it has registered  an expression of interest ‘on behalf of the community about this public asset’.

Other proposals put forward include food outlets, hotels, community proposals and electric vehicle charging points.

Policy lead for finance and commercial services Gary Mulvaney said: “Thanks to everyone who came along to the sessions to give us your thoughts on what would work well for the waterfront.

“We had a great mix of different interest groups and local businesses providing valuable feedback.

“We’re still at the very early stages of this project and there is a lot of work we need to carry out before we even get to the planning application stage.

“It’s important right now to consider all the feedback we have and consider options for enhancing a fantastic destination that complements the town centre, creates opportunities for communities and helps supports the local economy.”
