Four weeks of roadworks to start on A83

Four phases of road resurfacing work will start on the A83 this week – and the road will also be closed overnight for emergency water repairs in Arrochar.

Contractors say after the repairs are complete the Rest and Be Thankful will finally be open to two-way traffic again, with the planned completion of catch pit 3B.

The resurfacing will start on Wednesday night near Loch Restil with a convoy system in operation between 9pm and 7am.

The next phase will run from Sunday June 11 to Thursday June 22, with traffic diverted onto the single-track Old Military Road between 7pm and 7am except for the Friday and Saturday nights.

Work in the lower section of Glen Croe will then start, running until Tuesday July 4, with drainage work overnight and traffic lights in place

Finally work near Cobbler Bridge will then start, running until Tuesday July 18 – again with traffic lights.

A spokesperson for BGEAR Scotland said: “This project will help address defects and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance.

“The project will also improve the road surface, creating a smoother ride for road users. Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can.”

On the night of Thursday June 8 the A83 will be closed at the north end of Arrochar due to unrelated water emergency repair work from 8pm to 6am.

Once reopened the A83 will operate under convoy control until the works are complete by noon on Friday June 9.
