Argyll and Bute Council services to close for state funeral

Council-run schools in Argyll and Bute will close for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, September 19, the council has confirmed.

Many of the authority’s services will close down at 5pm on Friday, September 16 and will reopen at 9am on Tuesday, September 20.

Those include schools and nurseries operated by the council, which it has been confirmed will not be open on the day of the funeral.

No scheduled bin collections will take place on Monday, September 19 either, with the council still due to post details of when Monday collections will take place.

A spokesperson said: “Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed that it will observe the State Funeral for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, September 19, 2022 and the Council will follow the designated national Bank Holiday.

“We will be closed from 5pm on Friday, September 16 to 9am on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, except for essential service provision.

“All Argyll and Bute Council schools and nurseries will be closed to mark this occasion. All settings will re-open at their normal time on Tuesday, September 20.

“For all areas of Argyll and Bute, no scheduled bin collections will take place on Monday, September 19. Arrangements for catch-up collections will be posted as soon as they are confirmed.

“For burials and cremations scheduled for Monday, September 19 we will be guided by individual families and their wishes – it will be the family’s decision whether or not to proceed.”

The council-run recycling and civic amenity site at Blackhill in Helensburgh will also be closed.
