Musician in residence named for unexpected gardens

The musician in residence for three unexpected gardens which will soon sprout up on the Rosneath Peninsula has been named this week.

Siôn Parkinson is a sound artist, composer, writer, and performer. Recent works include a short puppet animation for the BBC, a perfume score for tuba virtuoso Jack Adler-McKean, and a piece commissioned by Red Note Ensemble exploring the music of smell hallucinations.

At the University of Leeds he studied sound in relation to ‘bad’ smells and he is currently based in Broughty Ferry, writing a natural history of the stinkhorn, due to be published next spring.

He will join artist Hannah Brackston on sites in Garelochhead, Cove and Rosneath where unexpected gardens are appearing in a project run by Cove Park as part of the nationwide Dandelion programme.

Cove Park says the growing and development of the gardens will focus on re-connecting with existing flora and fauna and how, in the future, they can be used in food, medicine, dyed textiles and art.
