Peninsula fundraiser as youngsters face ocean challenge

A group of young people from the Rosneath Peninsula have been given the chance to spend a week at sea with Ocean Youth Trust Scotland.

The 12 lucky youngsters are all members of Cove and Kilcreggan Youth Café, which is now raising funds.

The youth café has been going from strength to strength under the guidance of Susie Will and qualified youth worker John Agnew since being started 12 years ago, with membership steadily growing.

Susie said the facility had never been more important, after lockdowns, social distancing and mask-wearing led to social isolation.

“They were desperate to just hang out together,” she said.

“No school rules, no online learning just good old fashioned kids’ play.”

Now she has secured an adventure on one of the Ocean Youth Trust Voyages where they will learn far more than sailing.

The charity’s aim is, to inspire young people, through the challenge of youth work on the waves, to provide a uniquely powerful and effective environment for the personal development of young people from all backgrounds.

To raise funds a car boot sale and craft fair will be held at Cove Burgh Hall on Saturday May 7 and the organisers are appealing for support.

Lots of the famous peninsula baking will be on sale, together with burgers, hot dogs, cappuccinos and car boot bargains.

In the evening there will be a family disco hoping with the aim of encouraging lots of families back out, now social distancing and mask wearing are hopefully a thing of the past.

The car boot will be from 2-4pm and the disco from 7pm onwards – bring your own bottle.

Email Bev bevlburns@yahoo.co.uk if you would like a car boot space at £10 or to buy tickets for the disco which are £5 each or £15 for a family

If your child is interested in joining the youth café call Susie on 0794 917 8206.
