Storm Franklin callouts for Loch Lomond Rescue Boat

The Loch Lomond Rescue Boat was called out four times in 24 hours as the area was lashed by Storm Franklin.

The crew was paged by Police Scotland at 5.41pm on Sunday after reports of a jet ski failing to return and person or persons in the water in the area between Ross Priory and Balmaha.

A crew was launched, together with the coastguard helicopter, but after reaching the location were told the people had managed to swim to shore.

The rescue boat stood down and returned to base but then a second call came in, with reports of a vulnerable person near the shoreline in the Tarbet area.

The boat made its way to the location and crew searched the shoreline down to Firkin Point but with nothing observed, the crew stood down and returned to base at 8pm.

Then today (Monday) the crew was called out twice more – first at 11.49am, following reports of a male and female out paddle boarding south of Luss.

Both boarders were caught out by the weather and the male was said to have been in the water for 40 mins before reachingan  island.

Once again the crew quickly assembled and made way to Fraoch Island, icked up both boarders and returned them to base to warm up as there were signs of hypothermia.

Both have now recovered well. And thank you for your donation.

While the crew was on this callout a second call came through to reports of a boat with engine failure on InchConnachan Island at the haven.

The crew attached a tow rope to the 24-feet cruiser and recovered the boat back to Duncan Mills Slip.
