Storm Eunice brings snow to the west coast

Storm Eunice brought snow and sleet to the Helensburgh area this morning, with a Met Office weather warning in force until 6pm.

The snow gates on the A817 Haul Road through Glen Fruin have been closed, with Argyll and Bute Council saying buses and cars have become stuck in the wintry conditions.

Gritters are on the scene and the council says the road will be reopened when snow and vehicles have been cleared.

Most other routes are currently passable with care, although there is heavier snow on higher ground, such as the A83 at the Rest and Br Thankful (traffic camera footage below).

Elsewhere, the A83 was closed at Clachan and part of the M8 near Edinburgh was closed.

ScotRail services are currently running to schedule from Helensburgh Central station, although West Highland Line trains are delayed.

Kilcreggan ferry sailings were suspended, but resumed with the 9.16am from Gourock. The service will be suspended again from 12.56 until 4.18pm, due to high tides.

A yellow warning for snow is in force, with the Met Office saying: “Storm Eunice may cause disruption due to heavy snow and some strong winds on Friday.

“There is a chance of travel delays on roads, possibly with stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.”
