Royal jubilee events planned for Cove and Kilcreggan

Community celebrations to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee are being planned in Cove and Kilcreggan.

A national public holiday bas been declared for Thursday June 2, with a chain of beacons being lit at 9.45pm

On Tuesday night Rev Christine Murdoch told Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council: “Regardless of what we think of the monarchy as an institution, this is an individual who has given her life to her country, as do many people.

“So in some ways in honouring the Queen we’re honouring all the people that dedicate their lives to their country – I’m thinking of Captain Tom and countless others like him.

“I know for the diamond jubilee the school had a street party – it would be fantastic if we could have some form of street party or parties.”

The community council agreed to light a brazier on a side opposite Cove Burgh Hall (pictured) as happened to mark the centenary of the end of World War One, as this was on the border of both villages and would be visible from the Clyde.

A sub-committee was formed to work on plans, and other local organisations will be contacted.
