Community 10K event planned for Rosneath Peninsula

A new 10K run and walk event is being planned for the Rosneath Peninsula.

The community event was proposed by Kilcreggan woman Roni Ferguson, who last year ran a marathon locally for the Macmillan charity.

And on Tuesday Cove and Kilcreggan community councillors said they backed the idea.

“It is a proposal that we start a 10k run round the peninsula,” Roni told the meeting.

“I had thought of making it slightly different and making what we do round here a walk and a run – the walk would start early in the morning and the run later.

“It wouldn’t just be another run in the running calendar with people coming to run and get a time, it would be more relevant to our community, very much family-orientated.

“Those who want to walk can walk, and those who want to run can run.”

Roni said a possible route would start on the forest track, then go along the Barbour Road (pictured) and School Road before finishing at Craigrownie Park, with competitors going to Cove Burgh Hall afterwards.

It would be held in June or September and organised under the auspices of Rosneath Peninsula West Community Development Trust, with the aim of raising money for the local community and hopefully becoming an annual event.
