Peninsula Choir is back in voice

The re-formed Peninsula Choir will be performing later this month for the first time – and is also looking for new members.

Originally set up in 2010, the mixed voice choir was led by Stephen Adam and performed twice a year locally.

But combination of Covid-19 restrictions and Stephen leaving the area mean that several of the committee wished to stand down.

Then a new committee was formed at a special meeting held in August, with Gwyn Simons appointed as their chair.

With little money in the bank, the task of finding a new musical director might have been daunting until providence saw Moira Frize-Williams move back to Scotland.

Moira, who was born in Helensburgh, is a highly qualified teacher of music, singing and piano, with experience of leading choirs over many years.

Choir members were delighted when she agreed to be their new musical director, but since rehearsals only started in October a full-scale concert is not yet possible.

But an ‘Afternoon of Song’ for invited friends and family will be held on Sunday December 19 at 3pm in Cove Burgh Hall.

It is not a ticketed event but there will be a donation box to help defray expenses.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own refreshments.

Numbers will be limited and anyone wishing to attend should email gwyn_simons@yahoo.com or Seonaid at seonaid2001@yahoo.co.uk .
