Rosneath games area ‘does not need planning permission’

Planning permission was not required for a new Rosneath play area due to the proposal being a permitted development, council officials have confirmed, as work continues at the site.

An application for planning permission for the £90,000 development at Howie Park was recently withdrawn, with the project having initially been unveiled in March.

The plans include a toddler’s playhouse, slide and games pitch for football or basketball, and Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed this week that the development is continuing.

Originally it was due to be completed in September, but when that deadline passed the council said work would start after planning permission had been granted.

This week a spokesperson said: “Planning permission is not required as the development is permitted development. The application was withdrawn as this did not require to be determined.”

Work is now due to be completed in December, with a ‘flying fox’ and pre-school playhouse mentioned by the authority in a Facebook post this week.

It is one of a number of projects in Argyll and Bute to benefit from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund grant scheme.

A brief letter to the council by agent Malcolm Clapperton, submitted in October, had said: “I am writing to confirm that our client Allsports CM Ltd, working on behalf of Argyll and Bute Council, wish to withdraw the planning application 21/01778/PP in respect of a new multi-use games area and play equipment installation at Howie Park, Rosneath.”
