Four-way fight in Lomond North by-election

There will be a four-way fight in next month’s by-election in Argyll and Bute Council’s Lomond North ward.

Nominations closed today for the context, which came after the resignation of Conservative Barbara Morgan.

Independent Robert MacIntyre and the SNP’s Ken Smith have put themselves forward, together with independent Mark Irvine and Conservative Paul Collins.

Mr MacIntyre was one of the ward’s three councillors from 2012 until 2017, when he lost the seat after gaining only the fifth-highest number of first preference votes.

Mr Smith stood for the SNP in 2012, gaining 14% of the first preference votes under the single transferable vote system.
