Scottish Parliament to honour local heroes

MSP Jackie Baillie is searching for a local hero in her community who has made a positive difference to the lives of others.

The Dumbarton constituency MSP wants to ensure someone in the area receives recognition for the important work they do to help others locally or nationally during the Covid-19 pandemic by nominating them as a local hero.

The opening ceremony of the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament will take place in early October and those nominated by their MSP will contribute to the day.

“I know many people in Dumbarton, the Vale of Leven, Helensburgh and Lomond give their time and energy selflessly during a very difficult and challenging time, to make a positive contribution to the lives of others – often without recognition,” she said.

“Together with my fellow MSPs, we want to celebrate the achievements of our local heroes across every constituency and region in Scotland as part of the opening ceremony.

“I am really looking forward to receiving nominations for our local hero from our area, perhaps from their friends, family or work colleagues, maybe even from potential Local Heroes themselves. If you’ve got a good suggestion, please get in touch.

“As the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament gets underway, it is right that the people of Scotland are placed at the heart of our events.”

To nominate someone, contact Jackie Baillie by calling her office on 01389 734 214, email Jackie.baillie.msp@parliament.scot or send a letter to Jackie Baillie MSP Constituency Office, 6 Church Street, Dumbarton, G82 1QL.
