Argyll and Bute enters level one Covid restrictions

Covid-19 restrictions in Argyll and Bute will be relaxed to level one this weekend, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

The change announced by the First Minister this afternoon will take effect from one minute past midnight on Saturday.

Changes will include:

  • Eight people from three households can meet indoors
  • 12 people from 12 households can meet outdoors
  • 100 people can attend weddings and funerals
  • Soft play and funfairs can reopen.

Argyll and Bute is one of 14 local authority areas where the relaxations will apply because the virus is at ‘very low levels’ including neighbouring West Dunbartonshire and Highland council areas.

Glasgow will move to level two.

Latest data from Public Health Scotland shows there have been 13 new cases of Covid-19 in Argyll and Bute during ghe last seven days.

Ms Sturgeon said vaccines were taking effect and though the road ahead would be ‘bumpy’, ‘no part of the country is going backwards’.

“We can be optimistic about our chances of much more normality over this summer and beyond,” she added.

Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton Constituency, welcomed the change but called on local people to continue to follow the restrictions that are in place and to get their vaccine when it is offered.

“This move to level one will certainly come as good news to our community,” she said.

“I want to thank local people for following the rules as the situation has developed. Their cautiousness and willingness to follow restrictions has made this move to level one possible.

“To ensure that we remain in level one, and indeed move down to level zero in the coming weeks, it is vitally important that everyone attends their vaccine appointment when they are invited to do so. The vaccine hugely reduces the severity of the virus which eases pressure on our NHS.

“I also encourage everyone to take advantage of the free tests that you can obtain – we should all be testing ourselves regularly, regardless of symptoms, in order to ensure that we are not spreading and passing on the virus to others.”
