Macmillan Marathon planned as Cove Burgh Hall reopens

Cove Burgh Hall is reopening on Monday – and later this month it will be part of a Macmillan Marathon event.

With Scottish Government lockdown restrictions easing, the committee responsible for community asset said this week: “We are currently working with our regular user groups to work out when they might re-commence and will keep you informed on social media and the website.

“Every effort is being made by the committee to ensure your safety when visiting the burgh hall, so please help us by complying to all information requests and health and safety guidelines.”

One of the first events will be on May 30, when Kilcreggan resident Roni Ferguson will be running a marathon around the Rosneath Peninsula, with friends joining for three-mile stints along the way to raise funds.

In normal circumstances on that date thousands of people should have been descending upon Edinburgh for the Edinburgh Marathon.

Covid restrictions mean the marathon is now virtual, leaving the participants to run the 26.2 mile distance wherever they choose.

The peninsula run will start on the hall car park at 10am and end there at around 2.30pm with coffee and cakes on sale.

Roni aims to raise £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support’s Vale of Leven Committee – she became a volunteer for the charity at Christmas time and has started taking gentle movement classes for anyone affected by cancer.

If interested in these free online classes email Mahailia.Scott@liveargyll.co.uk or call. 01586 555200.

Roni added: “Macmillan funding has been devastated by Covid as they rely almost entirely on donations which have all but dried up.

“Why not come along or better still bring some baking and then come along!

“Let’s sit in the sun like the good old times and drink tea/coffee and eat delicious home made baking whilst raising money for a great cause.

“The aim is to raise £2,000 for the local Macmillan branch, so every penny raised goes to supporting local families. Please come out and lend your support.

“Some of my lovely friends are each running three miles with me to encourage me along and help raise money so please give what you can for this really important organisation.”
