Latest house plan for hamlet sparks objections

Plans for a new house in a hamlet near Kilcreggan have led to a string of objections.

Rosneath Farms Ltd have submitted an outline application for a seventh house on a site in Portkil.

Objectors say the number of homes in the hamlet has been doubled in recent years because of ‘planning by stealth’ and the latest plan would affect the setting of a listed building.

They have also raised concerns over drainage, with flooding during heavy rainfall, and say the single-track private road leading to the hamlet could not cope with extra traffic.

The West of Scotland Archaeology Service has also commented, saying prehistoric material has been found in the area, adding: “Based on the presence of recorded sites and finds from this part of the coast it is clear that there is archaeology in the surrounding landscape that may well have survived the many years of agricultural use on the application site.

“The proposed ground disturbance associated with this development is reasonably large in scale and stands a chance of unearthing buried unrecorded remains which could be of any period and which may survive below ground level.”

The plans are available on Argyll and Bute Council’s website – the reference number is 21/00349/PPP
