There was a surprise presentation at Kilcreggan pier yesterday when Gerry Tierney tied up the ferry for the last time.
Gerry is retiring after working in Kilcreggan for eight years – and Helensburgh pier for many years before then.
Piermaster Gavin Walker, his wife Louise, regular passenger Duncan Farquhar and the crew of the MV Chieftain clubbed together to give Gerry a framed photograph of the pier, as well as some cash to spend in his retirement.
Gavin said: “Gerry has done everything asked of him in order to provide a great service to our community, he has not once slept in and I can’t remember if he ever had a single day’s sick.
“I just hope we can find a similarly conscientious person to replace him.”
Argyll and Bute Council advertised for a new pier operative, on a temporary two-year contract.

Lovely words. Thank you!
Happy retirement!
