Jackie Baillie holds Dumbarton constituency in 2021 Scottish Parliament election

Jackie Baillie has retained the Dumbarton constituency in the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections.

The Labour candidate, who has represented the constituency since the formation of the Scottish Parliament in 1999, once again. fought off an SNP challenger – despite having to defend the narrowest majority anywhere in Scotland.

With 17,825 votes she increased her majority from 109 to 1,483, with the SNP’s Toni Giugliano in second place with 16,342 and Conservative Maurice Corry was third, as five years ago, but with just 3,205 votes.

Liberal Democrat Andy Foxall had 676 votes, while Independents James Morrison and Andrew Muir had 183 and 94 respectively, and Jonathan Rainey of the Scottish Libertarian Party received 134 votes. 106 votes were rejected.

There was a swing of of 1.8% from the SNP to Labour.

The turnout was 68.5%, compared to 61% in 2016.

In 2016 the results were:

  • Jackie Baillie -Scottish Labour Party: 13,522
  • Maurice Corry – Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party: 4,891
  • Aileen Morton – Scottish Liberal Democrats: 1,131
  • Andrew Muir – Independent: 641
  • Gail Robertson – Scottish National Party (SNP): 13,413
