Peninsula pupils at Hermitage Academy self-isolate after new Covid cases

New cases of Covid-19 mean that every pupil travelling on the school bus from Kilcreggan to Hermitage Academy has been told to go into self-isolation.

Headteacher Robert Williamson contacted parents yesterday to tell them that Public Health Scotland confirmed pupils had tested positive over the weekend for Covid-19.

And today an Argyll and Bute Council spokesperson said: “We are aware that there are three positive Covid-19 cases at the school and this may cause some local anxiety in the community.

“We are working closely with NHS Highland’s health protection team and will be guided by their advice.

“Close contacts have been identified and have been advised to self isolate.

“All pupils on the school bus from Kilcreggan have been identified as close contacts and have also been asked to self isolate as a precautionary measure.

“There is currently no evidence of transmission within the school or the bus itself.

“The school remains open and, unless they have been identified as a close contact, pupils should continue to attend if they remain well.

“Children and staff should not attend school if they develop any of the common symptoms.”

The academy told parents that there was no need for children to be tested unless they develop symptoms and other members of your household do not need to self-isolate.

  1. Does not surprise me in the slightest! Some evenings and often at the weekends some children on the peninsula have been all over each other messing about on bicycles with no lights in the dark giving each other backies and generally hugging and cavorting around. Things we all used to in days gone by however times have changed. I can’t see it getting any better anytime soon. Please please be careful out there and keep yourselves safe.

  2. TB killed 1.2 million people worldwide last year and possibly every other year for the last century or more, but I can’t remember anyone asking children not to behave like children, the global economy being brought to its knees, civil liberties being stripped or a mandatory bag over my face?

Indeed, please do be careful out there but do so by opening your eyes to what’s really going on and turn off the television…
