High Street Heroes honoured for caring in Covid-19 crisis

Businesses in Helensburgh, Kilcreggan, Rhu and Loch Lomondside have been named as Scotland’s High Street Heroes for helping their communities during the coronavirus crisis.

Regional champions from across all of Scotland’s 32 council areas were named today, while a roll of honour was published as part of the Scotland Loves Local campaisgn.

The Argyll and Bute nominations include:

  • Siona Garden of The Cafe at Kilcreggan
  • Ella Lawson of Home Hardware in Helensburgh
  • Robert Ryan of the Brae Shop in Rhu
  • Auchentullich Farm Shop
  • Coyles Fishmongers of Helensburgh
  • and Helensburgh Tech & Hardware

Scotland’s Communities Secretary Aileen Campbell today praised everyone named across Scotland, saying: “I would like to thank these High Street Heroes for going the extra mile to help their communities during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am pleased the Scottish Government has been able to support these awards through our funding for Scotland’s Towns Partnership.

“They typify the kind of community spirit that has supported people and improved lives.

“This has been a difficult year for all of us, and the only way we will get through is by sticking together, being kind, and offering help where it is needed.

“The fact that these awards received more than 1,200 nominations just shows how much people have appreciated those who have pulled together to help one another.”

Regional champion in Argyll and Bute was Jilly Wilson, of The Square Peg in Lochgilphead.

Highly commended were the Isle of Bute Resilience Team, Amber Cooper of Cooper’s Cleaning in Dunoon and Will Anderson of Muasdale Stores in Tarbert.
