2020 already the busiest ever year for mountain rescue team

A mountain rescue team has already recorded more callouts than in any previous year – with 11 weeks of 2020 still remaining.

The Lomond Mountain Rescue Team has now been called out 39 times this year, despite a total lockdown being imposed for several weeks.

The latest emergencies came yesterday, when the team helped to search for a walker who had become disoriented north of Ben Lomond at 4pm.

Then as night fell the team was called to the Ben Venue area, where two walkers had lost their way on the descent in worsening weather.

The evacuation route was on the far side of the Ledard Burn which had turned into a torrent, making the recue more complicated.
