Fears after six cats vanish from Helensburgh street in a month

Distraught pet owners have appealed for help after six cats disappeared from a Helensburgh street within a month.

The pets all belonged to families in Dennistoun Crescent and have gone missing this month, without any reported sightings.

Their owners have gone from door to door with a note asking for information and urging residents to be vigilant.

“We are very concerned that something sinister is going on, as it is highly unusual for so many cats to disappear in such a. short space of time and from within such a small area,” the note reads.

“Each of these cats is a much-loved family pet and all six are greatly missed by their heartbroken families.

“We are asking all local residents to be extra vigilant and to let us know if they see anything unusual or anyone acting suspiciously, as it could provide an important lead.

“We are particularly concerned that these cats may have been snatched, which is both upsetting and worrying and not what we expect in our quiet neighbourhood.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 0782 4833 504, 0749 048 2829 or 0792 077 6703.

Scottish SPCA chief superintendent Mike Flynn said: “We’re sorry to hear about the missing cats in Helensburgh. We know how concerning and stressful this must be for the owners.

“We would ask everyone in the area to please check sheds, garages and outhouses to make sure cats have not been trapped in there accidentally.

“A search of the local area should also be undertaken to make sure there are no pits, holes or anywhere that cats may get trapped and not be able to get out.

“We would also remind people to dispose of any toxic substance, such as antifreeze, responsibly.

“If anyone has any information, or believes there to be a welfare issue, then we would urge them to contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
