Core services to continue despite coronavirus, says council

Argyll and Bute Council insists it will maintain core services as required during the coronavirus outbreak – pending any national government advice.

Funerals and weddings will still be allowed to take place in the area, amid a ban on public gatherings in Scotland consisting of over 500 people.

And other vital services provided by the council, including bin collections, will be allowed to continue as the nation is hit by the pandemic of Covid-19.

A council spokesperson said: “We follow national guidance and make any necessary changes as required.

“Funerals and weddings are still going ahead along with frontline services including bin collections.

“We would encourage people to keep up to date with the latest information and advice from NHS Inform.”

Traditional funeral services have been banned in Italy during the coronavirus outbreak, with many taking place with only a priest and a funeral home employee present.

It was announced on Sunday that the Scottish Government had advised organisers of all public gatherings of 500 people or more should be postponed.

Glasgow City Council has also removed hymn books from chapels and advised mourners not to shake hands to prevent the virus’s spread.
