Coronavirus support group formed on Rosneath Peninsula

A new support group has been set up to help those affected by the coronavirus outbreak on the Rosneath Peninsula.

The Peninsula Coronavirus Support & Assistance Facebook group has already been joined by over 160 people since being set up by Julia Barr on Friday.

It aims to offer assistance and support to those affected by COVID-19, so people in self-isolation can look to others for shopping, errands or just a friendly phone call.

People who are not self-isolated can offer to be available for such support.

Julia said: “I set it up really as a pragmatic response to all the panic buying and general fear around coronavirus.

“I was concerned that people might find it difficult to obtain essentials, more so if self-isolating.

“The idea behind the group was to harness the community spirit on the peninsula and do something practical to help out – lots of people have offered help with things like shopping, collecting prescriptions and posting items.

“The uncertainty of the situation seems to have caused concern, and the group is also there to try and allay any fears.”

Julia said she had been in touch with Kilcreggan Medical Centre was collating responses for the help currently available and creating a list of points of contact for anyone not on social media.

The medical centre last week announced a change in its practices during the outbreak.

COVID testing is not being carried out at the surgery and anyone with a new persistent cough and/or a high temperature is being advised to self-isolate and self-manage.

If the symptoms are worsening you should contact the surgery or call 111; call 999 if you have a medical emergency.
