Loch Long Adventure triathlon planned

A new triathlon event in spectacular scenery around Arrochar is being planned for next year.

The Loch Long Adventure Challenge is being organised by the hosts of the Arrochar 10K, the Loch Long Jetty Association, to showcase the successful installation of their new pontoon and celebrate the Year of Coasts and Waters 2020.

The event is an Adventure Tri permitted by Triathlon Scotland.

It will involve a 3.5km kayak on a twin sit-on top kayak, a 24km gruelling cycle largely on forestry roads with no traffic and will end with a 5km run.

Teams of two will take part, with both having to do all three stages.

Jetty association secretary Dawn Gourlay said: “The kayaks, paddles and buoyancy aids will be provided but the race entrants have to bring your own roadworthy bike and HELMET!

“There will be lots of prizes to compete for – why not enter an office team and raise funds for your favourite charity!

“Entries are now being taken, so set yourself the challenge and start training now. “

The event will take place on May 2 and race entrants will have the option to sign up for a ceilidh which is being held afterwards, encouraging them to stay for the weekend and enjoy the stunning surroundings.

There is an ‘early bird’ offer until January for the challenge and the ceilidh only 60 teams of two can enter in this inaugural year so sign up soon to ensure you are part of it at www.entrycentral.com/Loch_Long_Adventure_Challenge

The new website www.lochlongevents.com will have up to date information about the course details, accommodation etc.

Anyione interested in acting as a marshal on the day should email Dawn on lochlongjettyassociation@gmail.com to volunteer. Marshals will have free entry to the ceilidh.

Grant funding for set-up costs in this first year has been provided by Triathlon Scotland, Argyll Community Housing Association’s Community Action Fund and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park’s Grant Scheme.

The organisers are also very grateful to the Ardgartan Hotel for allowing the use their ground for the transition stage.
