Kilcreggan’s Dr Doyle to retire after 32 years

It will be the end of an era at Kilcreggan Medical Practice this summer with the retirement of Dr Tony Doyle.

And patients are being invited to wish him well at a special event.

Dr Doyle has been at the Kilcreggan practice for 32 years.

The GP’s first day in practice in the village was April 1 1987, when he joined Dr Richard Houston in the ‘temporary’ portacabin across the road from the current surgery building.

When Dr Houston retired, Dr Doyle was joined by Dr Andy Falconer – who himself retired two years ago.

A spokesperson for the practice said: “Over the years the medical team on the peninsula has expanded with more and more complex health needs being looked after by the GPs.

“For 32 years Dr Doyle has been a constant member of this team, providing care as the ‘family doctor’.

“Over the last couple of years he has been able to provide mentorship and the benefit of his experience and knowledge to Dr Donal Murray and more recently to the newest member of the team, Dr Susan Thornborrow. After all that he deserves a rest!”

Both Susan and Donal are looking forward to continuing to provide care to their patients for many years to come, and they join the rest of the team at Kilcreggan Medical Practice in wishing Dr Doyle, a father, grandfather and keen golfer, all the best as he leaves to enjoy his retirement.

A retirement ‘do’ will be held at the medical practice on Tuesday July 2, and patients who would like to join staff in wishing Dr Doyle a long and happy retirement are invited to come along to the practice between 1pm and 3pm for some nibbles and refreshments.
